“whose voices are heard and whose voices are not?”

We define “pedagogy” to include the teaching methods one employs as well as the curriculum

and philosophy that undergirds one’s practices. Although pedagogy is often seen as falling

within the realm of faculty, our broad definition of pedagogy is inclusive of student affairs

educators as well. Critical pedagogy prompts both faculty and student affairs educators to

consider issues of power and ask questions such as: “whose voices are heard and whose voices

are not?” in the process of making decisions related to students’ learning. Critical pedagogy

pushes educators to not just consider curriculum, philosophies, and teaching approaches, but

also the kind of power relationships that are maintained by their decisions, as well as what

inequities need to be challenged in the process of making pedagogical decisions.

We created this channel to gather stories from folks who infuse critical pedagogy in their work.

We honor that there is no one way to do this so we’re looking for more stories and we hope

you’re interested.
